The Palmarito Sea Turtle Rescue has been dedicated to the preservation of endangered sea turtles along the Southern Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico since 2004.  The organization is named after Palmarito Beach - declared one of the top three most important sea turtle nesting grounds in the world.

THE PSTR PROJECT

The Palmarito Sea Turtle Rescue was incorporated in 2016 as a 501(c)(3) to financially assist a largely self-funded project started by Dr. Marcelino Lopez Reyes protecting the sea turtles nesting on Palmarito Beach in Oaxaca, Mexico - a nesting site for Leatherback, East Pacific Green and Olive Ridley sea turtles. Since its inception as the Campamento Tortuguero Palmarito in 2004 it has protected over 400 nests and averaged the release of 40,000 hatchlings annually.

MAZUNTE PROJECT

The Mazunte Project was established in 2001 in response to the Mexican Turtle Center (Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga) request for assistance in addressing large numbers of dogs eating turtle eggs, hatchlings, attacking adults and disrupting the important sea turtle nesting beaches of Oaxaca, Mexico. We have made a tremendous impact, but we need to have a continuing presence, or the overpopulation problem will spiral out of control again.

We Are Volunteers, A Non-Profit.

Our entire organization is founded on goodness. We are all volunteers, taking no salary and paying out of pocket for travel and lodging, and offering our skills and expertise as veterinarians, veterinary nurses, students, and a host of other backgrounds to help the great good in whatever ways we can: in this case that is protecting the lives of baby turtles in their increasingly fragile habitats as well as managing the overpopulation of rural dogs in Mexico through safe and effective Spay/Neuter programs.

We exist on donations if you are able to give.
